A Long Line of Lingerie
By Audrey Pinkmane
Shopping for lingerie sometimes feels like shopping for a Halloween costume. You’re looking for something that will make you look like the lingerie models you see in pictures. You’ve gathered from society that they are attractive, so that’s what you want to look like. You may go online or into an adult store, and be blown away by the options, not to mention the prices.
Why are the full matching sets/costumes so expensive? How on earth do you put this thing on? Where do I even start?
With lingerie, the best advice is timeless, and pretty much applies to everything else in life. Be yourself. You want something that you’ll be comfortable in, both physically and emotionally. Let’s talk physically first.
Despite your best efforts, wearing something that’s physically uncomfortable or even painful is going to affect your feelings of sexiness. Unless it is purposefully restrictive, it’s unlikely that you will be at your max levels of sexiness in an itchy, pinchy, baggy, eensy, leather lace-up thong bikini. Find something that’s easy to move in, or at least non-painful when you’re posing.
You don’t have to be able to do cartwheels in 6-inch-heels to be able to wear 6-inch-heels in your pictures. Just be sure you can stand up on them without feeling like you’re going to fall over.
When you pose for boudoir pictures, you want the look on your face to reflect something euphoric, and it’s easier to create those looks when you’re unencumbered by unpleasant feelings on your body.
Being emotionally comfortable in your outfits is just as important as physical comfort. Yes, it’s great to take risks and try new things, but your main asset during a photoshoot is going to be confidence.
Watch any episode of America’s Next Top Model and you will hear Tyra Banks talk about confidence again and again. If you’re wearing something that you don’t like, or something that makes you not feel like yourself, then your confidence is going to go way down.
Remember this: The intended recipient of the final photos, whether it’s you, a significant other, or whomever, wants pictures of YOU.
You are the subject of the photos, not your outfits. That’s why you should make yourself up into the best version of yourself, instead of trying to imitate someone else.
One way to ensure that you’re being yourself is to create your own outfits, as opposed to buying the premade costumes and sets you find in a store. If you love the costume that’s in the store, then go ahead and buy it, but don’t feel like it’s your only option for transforming into a sexy nurse.
Plus, making your own outfits is fun!
Not only will this end up saving you money, but you’ll be able to make it your own, as well as having reusable and adaptable pieces for your lingerie collection.
If you’re ever unsure of what to wear, seek out advice from others. And one of the best people to seek advice from?
Your photographer.
Whether you’re picturing romantic and delicate or hardcore and kinky, a consultation with your photographer can help you talk through what it is exactly that you want, and while the photographer may have direct shopping advice, it will mainly help you realize what you want to get out of the photoshoot.
You and your photographer will have a chance to paint a clear picture of what it is you want to look like, and how you can get there, so that you can capture the most beautiful thing in the world. Your best you.
