Hidden Beauty
A Poem
By Audrey Pinkmane
The shape of a leaf
The color of hair
The hint of a smile that you’re not sure is there
A simple firm handshake
Or the sound of the rain
The courage you need to try hard things again
There’s beauty in all of it
And most things you’ll find
You often needn’t look further than the back of your mind
And there’s a need to find beauty
In the things all around
Especially when it seems that there’s none to be found
For when problems arise
That grow harder to face
You’ll need to look further than the mere time and place
As the beauty is sacred
And the beauty is free
When in pain, it’s in the last place you’d expect it to be
So in light times and dark
In pain or at ease
Remember you’re in charge of what your heart sees.
